Let me tell you a story, The story of how I took up photography! I loved taking pictures back in the day I’d use a film camera & wait a looooonggg hour for it to finally develop!🤣 Fast forward ➡️ & now we can all access our visuals immediately!!!! Which makes it SO much more fun & easier to take up!
Buying a camera with zero funds back in 2014 was my biggest challenge, to put it bluntly I couldn’t afford the extra money 💰 and it all seemed like a distant dream to which was completely unattainable for me.
Through the luck of a house move and clawing together some funds I managed to buy my first DSLR & after hours on YouTube learning about Aperture, Shutter speed & ISO and still non the wiser I booked a college course, just to make it a reality because honestly I didn’t want to invest £350 in a camera which I couldn’t use.
It seemed like it costed the EARTH.. the course was just shy of £400 and for me at that time it was a massive challenge to find £750 spare. But the way I see it.. I wasn’t thousands in debt from Uni and if you do anything in life, it will cost you ££££ especially your own progression.
You might think that kinda money is a snip.. let me tell you that was one of my biggest challenges just to get the tools I needed to explore what I wanted to do. photography as an art. And at one point I thought it was just fantasy 🌌
Well., Fast forward to 2021 and where I am I?? Well I..
⚡️upgraded my first camera with a “full frame” through a lease to buy scheme.
⚡️I invested in some prime lenses which gave me a better scope when shooting.
⚡️I started shooting portraits, weddings and lots of nature photography all in-between.
⚡️I conquered my fears about getting in front of the camera & did some self portrait work.
⚡️I dipped my toes into photojournalism where I documented some of our Liverpool youth climate strikes.
⚡️I did a few zoom interviews with different friends within different industry genres online.
⚡️I got my photography featured in the Gwynt y Môr, in house-marketing.
⚡️ And I also created some Art 🖼 made from Air pollution from my photo portraits!
I’ve learned more about how to speak to my online audience.. which is tough when you’re basically an introvert so putting yourself out-there is a massive growth experience in itself! 😆
I’m still looking on to my future, looking at new projects and how to move forwards while working on my skills and trying new things.
WHAT DIDN’T I DO? AND WHAT MISTAKES DID I MAKE??? (How long you got?) there are things I didn’t complete and a ⏩ long list ⏪of mistakes I’ve made.
SO WHAT AM I SAYING?? What I’m saying is this; ⬇️
1) If you have something you’re longing to do.. then DO IT! Try and figure it all out on the way. Make it into a reality.
2) That while a lot of the above is related to my photography.. a lot also isn’t. Like building self confidence or developing skills I never knew I was going to integrate into my work. It’s all a skill building experience.
3) You will learn so much more than what’s in your “niche”
3) If you don’t try.. then you never really know what’s possible for you. You get to choose! You hold the pen!
Wow Times ⏰ change! Seasons change.. Now Is an opportunity to express yourself, you see the world, what you want to contribute. Doing what I do as challenging as it’s been at times, gives me a whole new level of peace & inspiration and a big part for me is doing things on my terms.
I wish you every success in ➡️ everything ⬅️ that you choose to take up and explore in your life! Life’s better when we lift each other up & cheer for each other. Life after all is a journey.. so where’s yours taking you? Let me know in the comments so I can clap 👏 for YOU!
Happy Mondays babe! Whatever you’re up to ⬇️ hope you slay it! 😘🙌
