Whenever I call on a certain friend over the years, I have learnt that she will always be there! Other than being a beautiful person, she is a fantastic friend!! BIG Love Em :) Now.. I've just finished editing some pictures from our evening shoot today, so I thought that I'd post them straight away! The light was brilliant tonight, we've been having a heatwave here in North Wales. Our location was Basingwerk Abbey in Greenfield, Holywell. just a hop, skip & a jump away from where I live It was also perfect for Em, as she lives close by. I am very grateful to work with such a good friend and this one is priceless! :)

There are some photos that just can’t help but carry more energy & feeling & if taken a fraction of a second before or after, will become a completely different picture. I have been developing my skills over the past few months and have had the privilege to photograph some very 'up for it' eager people! this had helped me in many ways to hone my skills and develop as a photographer. My shoots have been completely free of charge and they have often taken home a disk of their images with a slide-show or have been sent their images over the net. Wedding photography is an area I absolutely LOVE and I had the pleasure of attending an Irish wedding with another friend photographer back in May. It was an amazing experience, and gave me my first taste of wedding photography. I am so, so eager to get out there and fulfil my dream,, to be a north wales photographer. Amazingly she covered the cost of the flight over to Belfast and we stayed in an Irish guest house with all transfers and a meal at the wedding. We began that day, it was fast, everyone was on a high & everyone looked beautiful! I learnt an incredible amount shooting for that length of time, all day & into the night and mainly all in M-manual mode. So much so at my friends wedding a few days later my reactions were quicker and I was more decisive on my settings and getting a more accurate exposure first time... it became easier! After 8 long-months of having my camera I was gradually getting my confidence up! Both weddings were beautiful and I gave my friend and her husband all of their photos from my time as their guest as mine and my husbands gift to them.
See i’ve always fancied the idea of 'becoming good’ at photography it’s a skill that i've always wanted to hone, I remember one family holiday to Tenerife where I bought a disposable camera a full 32 frames & was ready to snap away & capture some of the amazing scenery while out and about on our hire car adventure. I began snapping away & capturing (what i thought to be) the most 'breathtaking landscape' while traveling around arguably one of the prettiest of the canary islands. All the time thinking to myself.. WOW! i've got some absolute stunners here!! Quite ambitious thinking really! considering i was using a Fuji disposable camera... Gotta love the 90’s! Well needless to say once home & still very much on my holiday high i went to process the film & waited relatively impatiently for the long drawn out hour for processing!. But that was the height of speed back then! I was so eager to see my fabulous pictures that i opened them up there and then while waiting for my change & really had to do a double take! before biting my tongue.. I was just about to query if there had in fact been some sort of mix-up or mistake?. but the images i was looking down at were indeed familiar to me. In fact if I squinted really hard & stared long enough I could actually.. vaguely.. make them out. Was i disappointed? YEAH! what can i say! i'm just born with crazy high standards! The pictures were all washed out, grey looking & they just looked hideous. Fit for one purpose only really yep, The BIN! Definitely not! the “WOW" pictures i had eagerly anticipated, but i guess I'm just a girl who believed in miracles!! I realized waaay back then that photography is more of a skillful art & like many different forms of art the skill involved is an understanding of equipment, material and what works! I am now on a mission.. to produce my perfect “WOW'S” after all life is short! and you should get busy doing something you love. My dream is to become a recognised wedding photographer! YJ |
